How To Piss Me Off

Send me an "ambulance services" bill for $1,061.75. I call my insurance company, they paid their contracted amount and according to them I only need to pay $82.00. The hospital sending the bill partners with our town's First Aid Squad, but is used for MICU/ICU which I was NOT in nor was it the hospital used.
Now I have to call this outsourced billing company and ask them where in the Sam Hell do they get off charging my over a thousand bucks? I did not know I was now going to be a part owner of an ambulance. Just know I am not excited about making this call. I understand EMS people make piss and are volunteers, but then just who is getting all this freakin' money???

After doing some internet research I found articles about numerous ambulance companies across the country that have been accused of fraud alongside Medicare. There were also lots of comments from people claiming they would never call for an ambulance ever again. Pick, life or death. Awesome.

And this is why I hate the US healthcare system with a passion.

We pay so much out of pocket for services, yes even with health insurance for those who live elsewhere, it is ridiculous. On top of that, NO ONE should have to decline an ambulance because you will get slammed with a charge for over a thousand dollars.
This is why I can't understand people who keep fighting Universal Healthcare. Do you really think medical bankruptcy is an awesome thing? I worked in mortgaging, I saw it listed on a few deals that came through. You shouldn't think losing your car or house or that depleting your savings to pay for any sort of medical treatments is acceptable. That doesn't say "Freedom" to me. Why would you want to fight tooth and nail to get stuff covered? Who the hell decided that medical care is not a God given right? Who is that person as I would like to inflict some private justice on them with a 2 x 4. I am tired of hearing about people unable to buy their diabetes medication or get that mammogram. Don't tell me they need to get a job or two, lots of folks have jobs and crappy insurance plans thanks to their employers not willing to buy better ones. I also love people who think like me being referred to as commie liberals because you know, healthcare is for wimps and you should just be glad you live in America.

So I will let you know how that phone call goes. Have a nice day.

A Lovely Weekend

Saturday my husband and son went to the zoo so I could have time to write uninterrupted. That was bliss! Then that evening I went out with some dear friends for dinner. A nice day for me indeed.

Yesterday we planned to head out to Liberty Science Center. We have a membership that was part of a package in a basket we bid on and won at our son's preschool auction. Also, our son is obsessed with cockroaches, praying mantises, ladybugs, well, any and all insects and arachnids. They have Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches there. Ask me who was the only kid so excited about that? The interesting thing was hearing other parents discouraging their kids form looking at the "bugs" because they are gross and don't like them. Funny, I thought you brought your kids to places like that to explore and learn which makes it not about you. Guess not.
We also got to go out to an observation deck and look at the marina and NYC skyline and Statue of Liberty. It was a lot of fun, though I really do marvel at what they charge for food in places like this. $3.00 for french fries. Seriously???? It is $7 to park BUT it does not go to the museum as it is owned by the State.
All in all, a good time for a family and if he wasn't so tired, I would have driven over to Liberty State Park and walked around, but he was wiped out and napped the whole way home. :)

Hello roaches. We visited them about five times yesterday. First time we stayed there for about 25 minutes!

Sesame Street exhibit about the body. Cute for what it was.

Wind turbine, a marina and downtown NYC.

Our fine lady, the Statue of Liberty.

Today we will just lay low, go outside here at home and do some weeding and getting ready to plant.

Early Mother's Day Gift

I am a honey fiend.

(very large one there)

I hate store bought honey with a passion. You can keep your cute plastic teddy bear containers and faux organic raw honey because that is NOT honey. When I bought honey from our local farm it was like ingesting a meadow of wildflowers and I adored the scent and taste. No, that is not everyone's gig, but it is mine.

Since winter has dragged her ass through our area for longer than anyone humanly desires, local honey was not available. So I sampled many a honey from Trader Joe's, not a fan of their stock, and Marshall's. They have good choices, but it is a crapshoot.

Yesterday a surprise arrived at my door from my awesome hubby.

There are three jars. One is for tea, one for grilling and one for cheese. Heaven, I am in heaven!! My expectations are high, but I have only ever heard fabulous things about Savannah Bee so I am really looking forward to trying each one of them.
I was pretty much locking throughout the house. Get yer groove on.

A Weekend in Pictures

Took a ride with my son on Saturday after he nodded off in the car. Decided to take some photos to share.

This is a branch of the river near the beginning of our street.

A beautiful back road had quite a few deer on it around 2:30. Snapped a picture of one of them.

I had taken pictures of this before, but at that time it was winter. It is so soothing to drive along here.

Some gorgeous daffodils in my backyard.

After such a stunning weekend, we are having torrential rains. A drag, but the flowers need it so I think I can suck it up for a day. :) Speaking of suck...
Still trying to get into "True Blood". I keep skipping the Jason Stackhouse scenes, but I am hanging in there because I really like the recently introduced character, Maryann Forrester. Not that this is the way to watch a show, but there it is. I also started to watch "Daredevil" on Netflix and W-O-W. Yes it is violent, hello it is based on a comic book superhero, but the grittiness and the acting are fantastic. As someone said, "They made this show for adults." Yes they did.

Welcome to Friday

Body Pump. 8 o'clock this morning. We did some serious shoulder work. Because of this I can barely lift my arms over my head due to the fatigue my deltoids, triceps, biceps and pectorals feel. Aces. That aside, I do love the class and wished it was offered more often.

I went and got a haircut and tomorrow I get the eyebrows waxed.  Whoo hoo!

I started to watch the British sci-fi/demented series Black Mirror. "The National Anthem" is episode one and after I watched it I wanted to vomit and shower. This series is not for the fainthearted nor is it for someone who dislikes science fiction and may fear technology. This series is everything dark and horrible you like to imagine about technology brought to life.

My book is nearly finished. Yes, hell has frozen. Well, it is about 6 chapters away and we all know that could take another 6 months or even a year considering how limited my writing time can be. No matter. I have decided that advice from a friend seems a sound way to go. Send out queries and give it 120 days. If I hear nothing, self publish. Hire an editor, a proofreader and probably someone to design the cover. This probably means I need to rejoin social media sites as I will need to promote the book. I am not thrilled about that aspect because of trolls and whatnot, but the desire to get the book into many hands will have to override that bull.

Been keeping a list of what is to get planted where outside and am excited to get a move on.

In case you don't have kids, three is an amazing and very strenuous age. Our son has a lot of autonomy, but man, there are times you would think he never was given freedom. Other times he wants to be attached to my hip or his daddy's. God Bless. I appreciate him enjoying our company and I also appreciate that he goes to preschool two days a week.

Have a fabulous weekend!

My Name is MissFifi and I Read Food Blogs

While that seems like no big revelation let me say I read them, but very rarely do I use them to cook.

I am no fraud, but merely a voyeur. Someone who has a nice list of food blogs she goes through, admires the  mouthwatering photos and intricate recipes of some, then moves on to simple living blogs or Houzz.
Part of the reason I behave that way is because while I love a lot of what I see, I don't have the ingredients, someone of them outright expensive, or I am just too damn lazy. The latter being the big one unfortunately. When I do find an easy recipe I will give it a go, but more often than not I treat the featured recipe like porn. I get excited, really check it out then when I am fully satisfied I move on my way. (Aren't I a cheeky monkey?)

So to honor my food blogs tab, I have decided to use this space today to post recipes from them. I have not made any of these recipes and I don't know if I will, but hell, it is nice to see what some folks do take the time to create or recreate.

Enjoy my lovelies!

Tick Tock

Was out pruning the garden this past Thursday. Discovered this little bastard on me on Friday.

Yes, that is a deer tick. It had burrowed itself in my upper abdomen, my husband got it out with tweezers and a call to the doctor told us we need to sit back and wait six weeks to see if I may be infected with Lyme Disease.

God is an amusing motherf*@$er.

Hope you had a great weekend!

A Small Round Up Post

A pair of favorite boots have begun to show serious wear and tear. This upset me as my boot collection has whittled away to just 4 pairs. I know it is not small, but I do love boots. As I went to get the box I used to keep them in I noticed the 'Buy One Get One' receipt was in there. I looked at it and laughed. I paid $20 for those boots and I had bought them in 2006. So all my annoyance was sort of ridiculous. These weren't boots I bought just last year and got one wear out of them. No. I bought them 9 years ago. Ahhh me.

In good news I worked out today. Before I headed out I had a fruit and avocado smoothie, a cheese biscuit and LOTS of water. I took it easy in Body Pump class. There was no feeling of wanting to pass out and I felt great. This disturbs me because my happy endorphins should keep me on the perky bus, but that is not happening.
My patience is very, very, very thin. I am not sure if this is part of the perimenopausal stage I am in, but I am not a pleasant person right at this very moment. My three year old who adores bugs will not leave the ladybugs alone. He is constantly grabbing them which is fine, but they do not stay long in this world once they are in his hands. Since I am a little tired of finding carcasses everywhere when asks me to reach a new one I barked at him that he had enough. I understand a three year old does not understand he is hurting them every time he tries something new with them, like picking them up with tweezers, but I can't handle him annihilating the whole east coast supply. I am trying to temper myself as I realize it is all my issue, but it also does not help that our dog is whining nonstop for some reason we cannot figure out.
In my case, lack of sleep may be the culprit. Ever since I have entered this odd phase of life, I wake up constantly during the night. Oh how I miss having a straight 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. I also hate the odd aches and pains too. A shooting pain in my hip or under my left rib cage. A sore foot, a tense shoulder. Every time I try to figure out what it is, it seems I discover that my spleen has liquefied or my liver is on fire or I am actually dying.

Pays to not go to med school right?! LOL It is fun to make fun of oneself I tell ya.

Well, for those of you that celebrate, Happy Passover and Happy Easter. For those of you that don't, enjoy the food :)
