Bad Meds, Movies and Misc stuff

I apologize for being absent, my wrist is still giving me aces now and so I try to give it rest.
A shout out to Cricket - Yes, Abby would be a great pal to hang out with!
So there is this horrible show called The Doctors on CBS, started up by "Doctor Phil". What irks me is that at times, these so-called pros give extremely poor advice at times and dumb down the medicine. Dr Lisa Masterson was the one who pissed me off the other day as she berated a so-called pregnant woman, I think the whole thing was contrived because this lady acted as if she knew nothing. This then allowed the ob/gyn to sound knowledgeable and adamant about what was going to happen to her fetus. She asked the woman if she knew what drinking did to her fetus, she had a cocktail now and then, because of that she was causing fetal alcohol syndrome and by smoking she was causing defects as well. The woman claimed to have no knowledge of what smoking did. The kicker for me was when "Dr" Masterson told her to get rid of her cats because of toxoplasmosis. Idiot, someone else can handle the litter box and meat for her. Also, because she ate a poor diet, the show was going to give her a year subscription to some food delivery service that prepares meals, god forbid you actually teach the woman how to cook and learn proper nutrition. It galls me that this show does well and people get their advice from these folks. It galls me more that she is a doctor at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. You can check all their stellar credentials here.
And now onto stuff that does not annoy me. :)
Staying with the hotness that is Mark Harmon, if you never saw Stealing Home, please do.
Here are a few other flicks that you should check out and let me know what you think
The Boondock Saints
Stage Door
The Letter
Whale Rider

We are still house hunting and I swear NJ still sucks went it comes to prices in some areas. You go way west or south Jersey, you can do well. Why would I pay $369K for a blah home that needs a kitchen update when in other states I can get a superbly renovated house?? Or at least one that is not ugly at every angle possible. I am not a fan of new construction either but the prices elsewhere compared to here?? And do not give me that crap it is because we live next to NYC. That is no longer relevant to me as other cities have begun to flourish with fashion and arts. So here are some goodies to oogle.

Solebury Twp, PA
Doylestown, PA
Savannah, GA I do not love the kitchen in this one, but dammit it is a fabu house
Raleigh, NC again, not a fan of new construction, but this rocks
Wilmington, NC
Northampton, MA

That is all for now, chat more later!

A little bit of this and a little bit of that

I have made a painting for our living room where I sewed a dress onto a canvas. Now I need pages from a decadent book, get them on there and the piece will be complete. I will take a picture once it is done to share. It was a lot of fun to do and if I knew I could make money selling them, I would do more.

We have decided to forgo a built in bookcase in the living room. While I love the whole idea of some accent piece in the living room,I would rather it be the books and art work, not the bookcase/media center that would be holding it. So now we are looking at furniture similar to this console from Ballard Design. Just at a much better price.

This display from the blog Chic Provence makes me want to grow wisteria for the rest of my life and only dine under a fabulous pergola.

The No Name Post

Thanks for putting up with my little rant yesterday. Now, even though I am as busy as a bee can be, writing, knitting and setting up the little man's play room, I wanted to share some links for all of you to enjoy.
The Roasted Heirloom Cauliflower and Chestnut Soup from Roost looks so comforting and delicious.
My obsession with cowl patterns from Purl Soho continues. The Garter Gaiter is divine.
I just heard about this book, "The Testament of Mary" by Colm Toibin and am intrigued to no end. Will have to add to my 'must read" list.
And this little fabulous ditty out of the UK, Pretty Nostalgic. A magazine that celebrates the "vintage, traditional and sustainable ways of living." Right up my alley.
Toques From Underground and excellent and fascinating article about underground supperclubs in The New Yorker.

And not necessarily a wise one. Human beings like to collect things. Whether it is comic books, Dr Who paraphernalia, baseball cards, guns or weird cat art, for some reason we have a need to hunt and gather. I am not very good at things like Ebay or Craigslist. I basically suck at bidding and I get lazy about checking every hour for the possibility that someone may have posted/listed something I want.

Until now.

Recently I have gotten a bee in my big ass bonnet to locate a great deal on the following furniture pieces.

Hoosier Cabinet

I want this awesome piece of furniture for my kitchen so I can eliminate most of my upper cabinets and have a place for flour to sift out of because that would make me so cool. Some are wood, some are retro metal, all that matters it is a multi-functional piece of art that would be amazing to own..

Pie Safe

I don't make pies and that is irrelevant to my desire for one of these.

Vintage Ice Box

Where would I even use this? I don't care. We can addres…
